Why it's good: CHEAP!
Why it's hard: Repetitive Menu
Why it's fun: Dressing up a repetitive menu!
Basic Ingredients:
Old Fashioned Oats (1 42 oz box)
Brown Rice (4 lbs)
Pearled Barley (2 lbs)
Black Beans (3 lbs)
Yellow Split Peas (1 lb)
Red Kidney Beans (1 lb)
White Navy Beans (1 lb)
Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter (26 oz jar)
Light Tasting Olive Oil (25.4 oz)
Louisiana Hot Sauce (6 oz bottle)
I bought this stuff at Jewel, Jewel brand, except where indicated. I bought the beans and grains in bags, not bulk. I'm sure you could save more $$ buying bulk.
I spent $29.43.
Basic staples daily menu:
Breakfast Oatmeal
Snack Peanut Butter
Can you do it for a month? A WHOLE MONTH? Sure! You've got $70 to spare to buy fruit, vegetables and other stuff to eat with your staples.
See weekly updates to see how to spice up the staples!
WHAT ABOUT COFFEE? WHAT ABOUT SWEETS?
I can't help falling over free coffee and sweets every where I go. Cakes for fellow employees' birthdays, coffee in the break room, coffee at Trader Joes', free cookie samples at Whole Foods. I say: No need to pay for coffee or sugar snacks during your month on the cheap.
